If you are living with a heart condition, it's very important to take extra care during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Not only do you have a higher chance of becoming seriously ill if you develop COVID-19, but the virus also may take
a toll on your heart.
Mended Hearts hosted a webinar April 3, 2020, about COVID-19 and patients with heart conditions. Martha Gulati, CardioSmart's Editor-in-Chief,
was the speaker.

This presentation gives
you an overview of COVID-19. It also offers some practical steps you can take to stay healthy and to feel more in control. In addition to washing your hands, covering your mouth or nose when you cough or sneeze, and cleaning frequently touched surfaces,
those include:
- Maintaining social distance (limit contact with other people)
- Keeping up heart-healthy habits
- Taking your medications as directed
- Knowing when to call for help, taking advantage of telemedicine and asking questions
- Keeping calm and staying connected
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now advises that you also
cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face covering when you go out in public. Recent studies show that even if you don't have symptoms, you may have the virus
and could spread it to others.
