Living With FH: Salima has familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) and is living with very high levels of LDL cholesterol. Over time, FH can lead to heart attacks or strokes early in life. Passed down in families, the condition happens when
there is a change in one of several genes. Because Salima has FH, her three sons are getting tested to see if they carry the gene too.
The good news is that FH can be treated. If you know your child has FH, you can take steps to lower their cholesterol to help prevent a heart attack or stroke. Parents with FH can learn more about genetic testing and how to talk about it with their children
at CardioSmart.org/FH.
