Patients With Heart Failure Who Are Considering an ICD (Short)

Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) are commonly used in patients with heart failure. About half of those with heart failure might benefit from an ICD to help prevent sudden cardiac death.

If you have heart failure and are considering an ICD, use this short handout with your health care team. It will help you gather information to be able to make a decision to have an ICD placed or not, based on your values and wishes.

For more information about ICDs, visit CardioSmart.org/ICD.
